Planning notes

Practical details for photographers

Photography notes

Jodhpur RIFF offers excellent documentary opportunities around Rajasthan's folk musicians, traditional dance, instruments, costumes, backstage preparation and interactions between artists and audiences. The Mehrangarh Fort setting also allows strong environmental compositions. The festival schedule includes dawn performances at Jaswant Thada, folk performances at Mehrangarh, traditional dance forms and evening concerts. However, professional/semi-professional photography, videography, recording and flash photography are officially prohibited at RIFF events and venues. Therefore, photographers should treat this primarily as a cultural research/visitor experience unless they obtain specific permission from the festival.

Access / permission notes

Photography restrictions are strict: Jodhpur RIFF's 2026 terms explicitly prohibit digital or analogue professional/semi-professional photography, videography, recording and flash photography. Anyone planning a photography project or commercial/documentary coverage should contact Jodhpur RIFF in advance and obtain written permission before travelling. The 22 October opening-night city concert is free and open to all; the main ticketed programme begins on 23 October.

Safety notes

Expect crowds, security screening and movement between multiple venues around Mehrangarh Fort. Keep personal equipment secure and follow staff instructions. The festival takes place in October, but early-morning events can be cooler than daytime conditions. Do not obstruct performances or enter restricted areas in an attempt to photograph.
