Chapchar Kut is one of Mizoram’s most important cultural festivals, traditionally associated with the spring season and the period after clearing jhum fields. In Aizawl, the festival brings together traditional dress, music, dance, public gatherings and community celebration. For photographers, it offers a cleaner, more organised cultural festival environment compared with many dense street festivals: portraits, textile details, group dances, stage moments, young performers, elders, urban hill-city atmosphere and community pride. The best work comes from respectful observation rather than treating the festival as a costume display.
