Photography notes
Treat Braj Holi as a sequence of separate photographic assignments rather than one continuous event. In Barsana and Nandgaon, use a wide or normal lens for the lanes, temple approaches, crowd movement, and Lathmar ritual, while a short telephoto can help isolate expressions from a safer position. In Vrindavan, temple photography may be tightly restricted, and colour, flowers, water, and crowd pressure can make camera handling difficult. Mathura offers wider street scenes, processions, pilgrims, markets, and temple surroundings. Photograph preparation, musicians, priests, volunteers, residents, vendors, pilgrims, cleaning crews, and the moments before and after colour throwing. Avoid reducing the festival to colour portraits alone. Ask before close portraits where practical and never interrupt worship or force participants to pose.
